Bernice Meunier -
Breast/Ovarian Cancer
Bernice Meunier - A Survivor Walking Away from Cancer
At 68 years of age, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had a mammogram in June, but in November, I found a lump in my left breast. By January 3rd I had my mastectomy and 11 lymph nodes were checked. My cancer was Stage 1 and contained in the duct, so no treatement was given.
At this time I wish now that I would have had yearly ultra-sounds because by 2006, I was again diagnosed with cancer - ovarian - this time. I had a hysterectomy in August and three chemos to shrink the mass that was on my bowel. In November I had surgery to remove that mass and by December I started six more chemos, ending in March, 2007.
I had excellent care by the doctors and hospital staff during surgeries, also the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary was excellent during my treatments. I have recovered nicely and I am back doing my normal activities.
